Erna Piechna-Sowersby (CH)
Fabrics, baskets and textiles as well as aerial photography of landscapes serve as Inspiration for both the creative and technical approach in this class.
We will be working with frit, glass powders, reactive glasses as well as metallic materials. From these we will create components – reminiscent of wafers – with unusual colour effects. These will be brought together by multiple firings.
The firing in stages will sometimes confront us with unpredictable results. We will analyze these ‘surprises’ and embrace them for our personal exploration.
The result is a picture or wall piece with a heavily textured surface and backside and all sorts of weathering effects – a narrative of the existence of all sorts of materials.
